Level System

💡 Switching from MEE6? Use /import_mee6 to bring over your members' XP and, if you like, your role rewards, so nobody has to start from zero.

How Leveling Works

Members earn XP by sending messages, at most once per minute so spamming doesn't pay off. With enough XP they level up, and Nexus congratulates them with a level-up message. You can hand out reward roles for specific levels.

Method 1: Setup via the Dashboard (Recommended)

  1. Open the Nexus Dashboard and select your Discord server.

  2. Go to Leveling in the menu.

  3. Set how much XP each message gives (a random amount between a minimum and maximum, each from 1 to 1000).

  4. Link levels to reward roles, choose a level-up channel and, if needed, exclude channels from earning XP.

The dashboard also shows your server's full leaderboard.

Method 2: Setup Directly in Discord

  1. Reward roles: Type /level_roles, click ➕ Add, enter the level and select the role.

  2. Level-up channel: Use /levelup_channel to set a dedicated channel for level-up messages.

  3. XP-free channels: Use /xp_channels to exclude channels or entire categories from earning XP.

The amount of XP per message can only be changed in the dashboard.

Level-Up Messages

  • With a level-up channel: All congratulations are collected in one channel and stay there.

  • Without a level-up channel: The message appears in the channel where the member was chatting and disappears after 30 seconds.

Excluding Channels from XP

Spam, bot or counting channels usually shouldn't award XP. If you select an entire category, the exclusion automatically applies to all channels and threads inside it, including ones created later.

Moving from MEE6

  1. In the MEE6 dashboard, go to Leaderboard and make your server's leaderboard public.

  2. Type /import_mee6. With roles: False, only XP is imported, without role rewards.

  3. Review the preview and confirm the import.

Important: The import can only be run once per server. The XP is added to any XP already earned in Nexus. Levels in Nexus start at 1, so MEE6 levels show up one level higher after the import.
