Configuration

Automod

The AutoMod module protects the server from automated attacks, malicious takeovers (nukes), and rule-breaking behavior. It is controlled centrally via an interactive menu in Discord or through the web dashboard.

Discord AutoMod Configuration & Setup

Prerequisite: The Discord Role Hierarchy

Because AutoMod can remove roles, restore channels and punish members on its own, Discord's role hierarchy applies:

  • Go to Server Settings → Roles.

  • Drag the bot's role far up the list: above regular members, moderators and administrators, if the anti-nuke system should also protect against compromised team accounts.

  • Important: A Discord bot can never take action against members whose highest role is above or at the same level as its own.
(Note: Bots can never take action against the server owner.)

Protection Modules in the /automod Menu

When you run the /automod slash command, you get an overview of the following modules for protecting your server:

🍯 1. Honeypot Channel (Trap Channel Against Raid & Phishing Bots)

What it does: Automatically creates a trap channel at the very top of your channel list, visible to everyone. As soon as an account posts in it, Nexus deletes the message and steps in.

Typical use cases:

  • Spam & phishing bots: Automated bots post blindly in every visible channel. In the honeypot channel, they are kicked from the server instantly, before they can reach other members.

  • Trolls / rule breakers: Members who ignore the warning automatically receive a timeout (7 days by default).

Team members with the Manage Server or Administrator permission are not punished. Their message is simply deleted.

Setting up the honeypot channel in Discord:

  1. Click the Honeypot button in the /automod menu.

  2. Fill in both fields in the pop-up:

    • Channel name: e.g. do-not-type or nicht-schreiben

    • Warning text: The notice shown in the channel (e.g. "Posting here results in an immediate timeout!").

  3. Submit: The bot creates the text channel, sets the required permissions and automatically posts the warning text.

💣 2. Discord Anti-Nuke (Protection Against Server Destruction)

What it does: Protects your Discord server from compromised team accounts, malicious moderators and bots that try to remove channels, roles or members on a large scale.

How it works: The module watches for administrative actions in quick succession: deleting channels and roles, editing roles, mass kicks, mass bans and adding new bots. It responds in two stages, depending on severity:

  • Stage 1 – Warning: Deleted channels and roles are restored, but nobody is punished yet.

  • Stage 2 – Full response (for large-scale actions, or if the same account gets flagged again within 2 minutes):

    • The account responsible immediately loses all roles and is put in quarantine (timeout) for 28 days.

    • Nuking bots are banned. Whoever invited the bot is also put in quarantine.

    • All of the server's invite links are paused for 24 hours.

    • Deleted channels and roles are restored, and bans issued during the attack are lifted.

Setup: Click Anti-Nuke.

⚙️ 3. Managing Discord's Native AutoMod Filters

Lets you configure Discord's server-side AutoMod rules directly from the interface:

  • Mention spam: Blocks messages with more than 5 user or role mentions.

  • Spam content (Anti-Spam): Filters repeated copy-paste behavior and typical advertising text using Discord's built-in detection.

  • Word filter (Keyword filter): Blocks messages containing words from your own list, directly on Discord's side. Manage the list via Manage Keywords (one word per line).

If a log channel is set up, Nexus reports every blocked message there.
